The secrets behind launching a startup 🤫
If you've ever dreamt of launching a startup, or if you're in the trenches building one, John's reflections are golden nuggets you can't afford to miss. His candid advice covers everything from the importance of focusing on your users, to why every startup should aim for the global market from day one, and the pivotal role SEO should play in your strategy. So, before you make another move, take a moment to absorb these lessons.
Idea Validation: Don't let incubators and VCs steer your ship. Validate with real users first.
Ego Check: It's about the user's needs, not your personal taste.
User Focus: Attract users, and investors will follow.
Team Composition: Hire doers, not managers, until you reach Product-Market Fit (PMF).
Simplicity Wins: A basic, conversion-optimized landing page is your early-stage ally.
Tech Talent: One full-stack developer can be your early-stage MVP.
Global Vision: Aim for the stars from the start; the global market is vast.
SEO Strategy: Start optimizing for search engines from day two.
Feature Sales: Sell the idea before coding it into existence.
Team Chemistry: Work with people you genuinely connect with.
Invest Wisely: Put your resources into your startup and network.
Social Presence: Tweet daily to expand your universe of opportunities.
Corporate Caution: Partnerships with corporates can be black holes for time and focus.
Hype Resistance: Stay true to your mission, avoiding distracting trends.
B2B Over B2C: The odds are more favorable in the B2B space.
Project Lifespan: Know when to let go of a failing project.
Self-Management: Empower a team that can self-navigate.
In-House Innovation: Outsource sparingly to maintain vision and creativity.
Bootstrapping: Consider funding your own journey through the startup universe.
Patience: Building a successful startup can be a long voyage.
Pricing Strategy: Don't undervalue your offering; price it right.
Acceptance of Failure: Embrace the learning curve of failed startups.
Efficiency Tools: Use boilerplates to save time and resources.
Life Balance: Make time for family and friends; they're your ground control.
Audience Alignment: Create for communities you're passionate about.
Consistent Creativity: Write daily to refine your storytelling skills.
